Dear Loyal PCF Supporters,
Thank you for your continued involvement in Pediatric Cancer Foundation. We met our goals and commitments to the doctors we fund this past fiscal year because of you. With neither federal funding nor pharmaceutical company resources, we rely on all of you to help make a difference in the lives of children with cancer. You have brought us one step closer to a cure and we are truly grateful. Your dollars helped fulfill the following featured lifesaving projects below: Research based on clinical trials, which has evolved into new regimens for children with treatment-resistant cancers. PCF’s support has made the difference between this lifesaving research laboratory continuing or shutting down. Renewed funding for Pediatric Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award to support faculty researchers. These researchers are looking into the biological processes leading to childhood cancer. Their goal is to develop new therapies that are targeted at disrupting important pathways unique to the cancer cell. In addition, they are working to identify new methods of customizing treatment so that children may receive effective therapy without unnecessary exposure to drugs or agents with potentially debilitating side effects. Continued research and development of antibodies and immune cells to target and destroy cancer cells while leaving healthy cells intact. This study is called: Targeted Gene Therapy. Continued support for Diamond Blackfan Anemia link to leukemia. With PCF’s support, they have discovered 4 additional genes. Continued funding of an integrative medicine program in their pediatric oncology unit. Children battling cancer and enduring conventional cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation and bone marrow transplants struggle with pain, nausea, and depression. This is where nutrition and alternative therapies: yoga, massage and nutritional improvements make a difference. By minimizing the horrible symptoms of treatment, these techniques help children and parents relax, feel better, and aid their in their healing process. Now we are working harder than ever to continue meeting our goals and commitments to our doctors we support. In an effort to end the suffering of innocent children and their families, we look forward to partnering with you once again during this coming year.
