Message from PCF's President

Dear PCF Friend,

We are writing this note to you on behalf of the 12,000 children diagnosed with cancer every single year. Behind every beautiful child is a story…a story of a child with cancer and the living nightmare that each child and his/her entire family must face twenty four hours a day seven days a week. This is a constant reminder that cancer keeps happening; cancer does not take a vacation. It can strike any child at ANY time.

We understand this is a challenging economic time for us and we truly appreciate all of your support in any means. Just because our economic conditions have altered does NOT mean children are any less susceptible to cancer, nor do they get any respite. We must remember, the children did not ask to get cancer. They were dealt this horrific hand.

This year PCF has been working harder than ever to continue to provide the doctors and hospitals we fund with promised monies for research, treatment, state of the art equipment/instruments and parent/patient care. We fund the following hospitals: Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, The Hassenfeld Children’s Center at NYU Medical Center, Steven and Alexandra Cohen Medical Center of New York and Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center.

Unfortunately, some labs face closure due to lack of funding and that means greater challenges for finding treatment and cures. We have come such a long way with the cure rate close to 75%, but this is not good enough. We need a cure rate of 100%. Every child that dies is one child too many. Disappointingly, pediatric cancer is STILL the number one cause of non-accidental death in children.

This is why we are conducting our annual campaign. We need your support today more than ever to continue to eradicate childhood cancer and reach our goals. Any gift in any amount brings us one step closer to a cure. Join us in making a difference and give life and hope to countless children and their families. Thank you for helping to ...hold the hand of a child.

With deepest gratitude,
Stefanie Mittman
